South Carolina women’s tennis closed the final day of the South Carolina Fall Invitational on Sunday after consecutive undefeated days on the singles and doubles sides. The Gamecocks won one of three doubles contests with Winthrop and took four of the six singles matches in the afternoon session.

A fired-up South Carolina squad made quick work of rival Clemson Saturday night, sweeping the Tigers on their home floor, 255-15, 25-21, 25-17. The Gamecocks blocked 12 attacks, and hit .406, led by 10 kills from Mikayla Shields. South Carolina finishes the non-conference season at 7-5, while Clemson moves back to 5-7 for the year.

Led by under-par rounds from sophomores Anita Uwadia, Lois Kaye Go and Ana Pelaez, No. 13 South Carolina women’s golf climbed one spot to seventh place on day two of the Mason Rudolph Championship Saturday. The Gamecocks posted a second-round 284 (-4) at the Vanderbilt Legends Club to bring their 36-hole total to 573 (-3).

South Carolina women’s tennis refused to surrender a single point for the second-consecutive day at the South Carolina Fall Invitational as the Gamecocks swept through Marshall in the morning singles matches before closing the day with commanding victories over Middle Tennessee State in the afternoon doubles portion Saturday.

A late second half comeback fell just shy on Saturday afternoon, as South Carolina (3-3-0, 0-2-0 C-USA) was defeated 2-1 by Marshall (5-2-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. Team captain Peyton Ericson headed the game-tying shot on goal with 12 seconds left in regulation, but it was saved by the Thundering Herd's Nate Himes.

South Carolina fell in four sets to Texas Tech Saturday morning at the Clemson Challenge, 25-21, 25-27, 16-25, 23-25. Claire Edwards had a career day with 13 kills, five digs and six block assists, but the Gamecocks as a team hit just .162. The Red Raiders improve to 10-2 this season, while Carolina is now 6-5.

W. Soccer. Lindsey Lane’s Penalty Kick Hands Gamecocks 1-0 Win Over Alabama

A penalty-kick goal from senior midfielder Lindsey Lane in the 76th minute pushed No. 3 South Carolina women’s soccer past Alabama 1-0 in the team’s SEC opener Friday night at Stone Stadium. The second-half tally delivered the sixth-straight victory for the Gamecocks (7-1-0, 1-0-0 SEC) and handed Carolina women’s soccer coach Shelley Smith her 250th career win. Alabama (7-2-0, 0-1 SEC) saw its five-match winning streak halted following the loss.

South Carolina started its weekend at the Clemson Challenge Friday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep of Georgia Southern (2-5). The Gamecocks used a balanced offense and a high-energy defense to cruise to the 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 decision and move to 6-4 this season. Three different Gamecocks led the way with nine kills apiece, including a career day for freshman Jess Vastine.

Sophomore golfer Anita Uwadia posted an opening-round 71 (-1) to pace No. 13 South Carolina on day one of the Mason Rudolph Championship Friday at Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Gamecocks opened the 54-hole event with a 1-over 289 to end round one in a tie for eighth place.
