In head coach Beverly Smith's first year, the trajectory of South Carolina's softball program changed dramatically, increasing the team's win total by 15 games and making the seventh-best turnaround from 2010 to 2011 in the NCAA's top division. With only two starters gone from last year's position players, the Gamecocks hope to climb higher in Smith's second year. This starts a three-part series previewing the 2012 Gamecocks. The South Carolina baseball team opens spring team practice this weekend with scrimmages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Carolina Stadium. All three scrimmages are open to the public with admission free of charge. Weather permitting, Friday's scrimmage will start at 4 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The South Carolina equestrian program has signed Hunt Seat rider Madison Cameron (Portland, Ore./Jesuit High School) to a National Letter of Intent, the Gamecocks announced today.
