With the official announcement of the 2012 South Carolina softball schedule yesterday, it seemed appropriate to find out which games or weekends would be the most exciting to the student-athletes. This one, apparently, was a no-brainer.

W. Basketball. Cocky’s Junior Sportscaster Contest

At Sunday's women's basketball game, boys and girls age 7-12 can register for the Cocky's Junior Sportscaster Contest, presented by the University of South Carolina and ABC Columbia. Contestants will have the opportunity to be filmed by ABC Columbia's production team reading a script as an actual sports anchor. From the contestants, one boy and one girl will be chosen to appear on ABC Columbia News along side sports anchor Tim Hill and Cocky.

South Carolina men's tennis continued its perfect play with a 7-0 victory over Elon at the USC Indoor Facility Friday morning. The Gamecocks have not lost a team point through three matches this season, dropping just one competition in their 27 individual matches.

South Carolina senior left-handed pitcher Michael Roth, junior right-handed pitcher Matt Price and junior first baseman Christian Walker all picked up 2012 Perfect Game USA Preseason All-America accolades as announced Friday morning. All three were first-team selections.. South Carolina, ranked No. 2 by Collegiate Baseball yesterday in the Preseason Top 40, opens the 2012 season on Friday, Feb. 17 hosting a three-game series with VMI at Carolina Stadium.

Markeshia Grant's 20 points led South Carolina to a 61-43 victory over Ole Miss Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks (16-5, 5-3 SEC) had a strong first half with four 3-pointers from La'Keisha Sutton, which set the pace for the rest of the game. Leading scorer and rebounder Grant hit 4-of-7 from behind the line, three of those coming in the second half to seal the Gamecocks' victory.

South Carolina is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the 2012 USA Today/ESPN Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll as announced on Thursday afternoon. The Gamecocks open the 2012 season on Friday, Feb. 17 hosting a three-game series with VMI at Carolina Stadium. South Carolina is the back-to-back defending national champion in NCAA Division I Baseball after winning consecutive titles at the 2010 and 2011 College World Series.
